Karen and Laura have known each other for almost 40 years and have been best friends since the very first day they met so it’s no wonder that they jumped at the chance to go into business together. Oh, and did we mention that they’re also mother and daughter?
Karen has an impressive 50-year career as a Licensed Optician in Connecticut, serving most of her previous experience in management for a Global Optical Retailer and a busy multi-location optometric practice. Karen purchased The Eyeglass Place of Newington in 2019 and in late 2024 sold the practice to her colleague and friend, Dr. Brittany Jones. Along with her daughter in 2022, Karen opened The Eyeglass Place of Ellington with aspirations to keep the artistry of opticianry alive, something that is near and dear to them both.
In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and rescue dogs as well as watercolor painting, re-purposing antique furniture and sport shooting. She holds a Master classification in Bulls-Eye and had the distinct honor to represent the USA on the esteemed Mayleigh Cup Team in Camp Perry Ohio in 2016.Karen proudly specializes in problem solving the
the eyewear obstacles of individuals participating in range and sport activities as well as assisting our police and military with their unique eyewear needs.
Laura is a second-generation Licensed Optician who has grown up in the eye world (no, really. Her first time crawling AND walking were both in an optical!). Having been in the optical field for most of her professional life, Laura has worked in all sides of the business including medical coding & billing, a Certified Ophthalmic Technician, a Certified ABO speaker, and has managed both private and corporate optical locations.
Before opening The Eyeglass Place of Ellington with her mom, she was working with an industry leading international laboratory providing lens services to hundreds of offices across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Being an Ellington resident, Laura loves getting to meet and service the optical needs of her community. Laura enjoys spending time with her family and cats as well as spending her spare time reading, crocheting, and discovering new shows and hobbies.
Laura proudly specializes in a consultative approach to eyewear; taking the time and asking the right questions to ensure that prior obstacles that might have hindered your vision in the past can be identified and resolved in your future eyewear.
For the convenience of our customers, The Eyeglass Place of Ellington has linked up with Eyeconic Vision Care, an Independent Optometry Group, to provide Comprehensive Eye Health Exams right in our office! Learn more about their Independent Optometrists below.
