Meet Our Opticians
Karen L. Pizzitola, L.O., Owner
The Eyeglass Place of Newington would like to welcome Karen Pizzitola as its new owner. Karen brings with her an impressive 40 year career as a Licensed Optician in the State of Connecticut, most recently serving as the General Manager of a busy local practice for 9 years and a previous 20 years of experience as a General Manager in a Global Optical Retailer. Karen returns to The Eyeglass Place after spending time in the late 70’s learning and perfecting her trade in this very store. After many years in the Optical world, Karen made the heartfelt decision to purchase The Eyeglass Place in 2019 from her long-time friend with aspirations to keep the artistry of opticianry alive, something that is near and dear to her.
In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and rescue dogs as well as watercolor painting, re-purposing antique furniture and sport shooting. She holds a Master classification in Bulls-Eye and had the distinct honor to represent the USA on the esteemed Mayleigh Cup Team in Camp Perry Ohio in 2016.
Karen proudly specializes in problem solving the eyewear obstacles of individuals participating in range and sport activities as well as assisting our police and military with their unique eyewear needs.
Sarah Figueroa, L.O.
Sarah has been in the optical industry for over 20 years, beginning her career in a large optical chain in 1999. Sarah entered the field as an lab technician, was quickly promoted to assistant lab manager, and became lab manager for her last eight years with the retailer. After having her first child, she decided to transition into private practice in 2014. In 2015, we were happy to welcome her to the Eyeglass Place team.
Meet Our Optometrists
Bradford Newman, O.D.
Dr. Bradford A. Newman graduated Upsala College with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1971. After basic training in the U.S. Army reserve, Dr. Newman entered the Illinois College of Optometry where he received his Bachelor of Science in Vision Science and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978. In 1980, Dr. Newman attended Gesell Institute of Child Development where he received a post-graduate certification in children’s vision. He has also received certifications in diagnostic and therapeutic ocular agents from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and the State of Connecticut. Dr. Newman is a diplomat in glaucoma and certified in Advanced Practice Optometry by the State University of New York College of Optometry and the State of Connecticut.
Dr. Newman was a member of the New England Council of Optometrists, the Connecticut Association of Optometrists, and the American Optometric Association. He was on the town of Bloomfield Health advisory committee for many years and is a past president of the Bloomfield Jaycees and the Rotary Club of Bloomfield.
Vivek Goyal, O.D.
Dr. Vivek Goyal graduated from SUNY Stony Brook University with a bachelors in Science and minor in Business Management in 2015. After completing his undergraduate studies, he continued his education at the New England College of Optometry where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2019. Dr. Goyal’s clinical experiences include private practice, community health centers, and VA hospital’s. Dr. Goyal is currently finishing his residency in Ocular Disease/Primary Care at VA CT Healthcare, Newington Campus where he works with veterans of different ages. He is also a member of the Connecticut Association of Optometrists, and the American optometric association.
In his free time, Vivek enjoys singing Bollywood songs and making music videos. Some of his interests include basketball, tennis, swimming, dancing, and investing.
